Shanahan, Michael Edward
Michael Edward Shanahan, Eastern Illinois University ’74 was born on August 24, 1952, in Oak Park, Illinois. He was a member of Delta Psi Chapter at Eastern Illinois University, where he was also quarterback of the football team.

Shanahan’s days of playing football were cut short by injury, and he then turned to coaching. Shanahan has had an incredibly successful career as a football coach for colleges and the NFL. He worked for the Los Angeles Raiders, San Francisco 49ers, Washington Redskins, and most notably for the Denver Broncos from 1995 to 2008. His teams have appeared at the Super Bowl five times under his leadership. In fact, the Denver Broncos went to the Super Bowl back to back in 1997 and 1998 while he was head coach. Over the last five decades, it is safe to say Shanahan has had a remarkable career in professional football.

Shanahan is married to his wife, Peggy Shanahan, with whom he has two children, Kyle and Krystal. His son, Kyle Shanahan, followed in his father’s footsteps and also has a notable career as a football coach. He is currently serving as head coach for the San Francisco 49ers.
