Francis P. Wacker, Pennsylvania State University ‘33, greatly shaped Delta Sigma Phi in the second half of the 20th century. He was born on March 19, 1912, in Pennsylvania and died on January 24, 1988, in Colorado. Wacker attended Pennsylvania State University, where he was a member of Epsilon Chapter. After college, Wacker served his country as an officer in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Wacker had the longest tenure of any Executive Director, serving from 1947 until 1978. During his 30-year administration, he dealt with anti-fraternity sentiment on college campuses, students being drafted into wars, and a sudden influx of students receiving college educations due to the GI Bill.
For his service to the Fraternity, Wacker has been honored in several ways. Wacker received the Outstanding Brother Award in 1959 and the Mr. Delta Sig Award in 1975. In his honor, Delta Sigma Phi Fraternity also created the Francis “Pete” Wacker Interfraternity award, which recognizes a person who has made a contribution to the advancement of interfraternal cooperation and the Greek community. Wacker’s legacy is honored and remembered by Delta Sigs of today.
